Name: Mother Merderecia Etera Velia Genevieve “Eversmile” Dondonshi Vertecroft; she believes it's an adequately showy name, considering her status. However, in recent years, most people just refer to her as “Devil”. That, and most people that knew her full name are dead.
Age: Older than you
Date of Birth: Once upon a time
Gender: Well, this is kinda fluid for a master shapeshifter. Female, typically, though.
Sexual Orientation: Anything
Face Claim: Suzushina Yuriko/Genderswapped Accelerator – To Aru Majutsu no Index
Appearance:
Height: If she's annoyed, taller than you. Any other time, 4'0 to 4'3. It varies, since she doesn't bother measuring her height when altering it back to “normal”.
Distinguishing Features: Devil's physical traits are definitely more in line with “childish” than “horrible devil capable of destroying things”. This is because she specifically tried to make herself seem less imposing. Her horns typically have three different “postures”, intentionally being altered due to her revealing her motivations. Only those around her would recognize them, though. When looking to be spoiled, her horns are small, basic stubs just at the forefront of her hairline. When she's laid back her horns extend almost completely backwards, nearly flat against her head, until they poke roughly six inches past the back of her head. Finally, when she's planning something, her horns coil and gradually curve backwards, creating spirals seemingly disproportionate to her size.
Typically, she doesn't have her wings out. In fact, since the end of the war, she really hasn't needed to. They can be intimidating. That's all that the few who had seen them can likely remember. On the other hand, after experiencing the story of “Strangely-named Asian Girl and Big Azure Ocean”, she altered her tail to be distinctively anchor-like. It's also extraordinarily hard and heavy. Avoiding it is well within most peoples' best interests. Though, what's an Asian? Other than those, it should go to note that Devil often alters her hair, extending the length, hardening the strands, and using the mass in the form of extra-long spider legs. It's not unusual to see her body, bloody from slamming into objects, being dragged across the floor by these hair-legs.
In terms of attire, Devil isn't picky. She wears what works. Given she can craft outfits at will, it kinda goes without saying that she really wears whatever she wants. Still, she does seem to be split between “easy-going pajamas” and “actually fairly fashionable”. Of course, there's also the occasional third option: A shark onesie, with a tail-end to properly, and snugly, fit her anchor tail.
Character Type: Devil
Residency: Inside your heart.
Likes: Devil likes kids, first and foremost. It's part of the reason she took special care to make a harmless appearance for herself. Of course, roughly half of the citizens of the peaceful world are directly considered her children, since she is the progenitor of this world's demons. On top of that, she does consider anybody with demon in the bloodline to be her kids- even if they happened to be angelically-favored. Of course, she still likes pure-blood angel kids, as well. She just doesn't consider them to be her kids. Not directly, anyway. She likes spoiling them, playing with them, and riling them up. Especially right before they head off to their parents. She's also pretty fond of feline creatures. She has a few kitties. There's the lion, Meowcifur, the ocelot, Revolver Nyacelot, and the panther, Count Vlad Nyanpire, to name a few.
She's pretty fond of burgers. And sweets, as well. Actually, she'll eat just about anything. Even things that taste like shit. Actually, she's kinda just fond of, you know, eating. And drinking, too, naturally. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. It's all the same to her. It's not like she can get drunk, after all. Or sick from food poisoning. Really, she just enjoys indulging herself. With, well, anything. Doesn't have to necessarily be with food or drink.
She's not afraid to admit that she's got a fondness for the god. If anything, she seems to enjoy admitting it at key points to get the biggest reaction out of him or others. While it's nice to be spoiled by him, specifically, she also enjoys getting spoiled by others. She's especially fond of going around, posing as a kid among the older bunches of the citizens. Whether it's because they don't recognize her, don't know her personally, or just don't give a crap, many often give her sweets, attention, and other things. Part of it is from the attention, linked with her own vanity. Part of it is the “pay”, tying to her greed. Most of it, though? It's a good chance to mingle. She likes seeing how her kids are doing.
Dislikes: There's a few things in the world that Devil dislikes. Among them are even traits found among some of the citizens. For one? While she absolute adores kids, Devil honestly dislikes that new-age, special snowflake shit that some of the youths are clinging to to feel special. Nobody was reincarnated from some fictional plane of existence. She would know. Given a large chunk of the population was directly spawned into existence by the means of her own power. Claiming that one was a flower or animal in their past life is cute, if they're a kid. If it's seriously some borderline lifestyle-altering belief, though? That's just unhealthy. Kinda pisses her off, actually.
That said, while she embraces freedom for people to do whatever they want within reason, anything destructive- to themselves or others- tends to get a nasty stare. Or an absurdly, even comically, tall kid looming over them, regardless of their height. Of course, depending on just how bad they are, she might even do more than loom over them. While she's all for freedom of, well, mostly everything, anything that disrupts the natural order kind of, sort of, really and truly annoys her. It's normal to indulge in natural desires. Unnatural desires, though, need to nipped in the bud.
She doesn't like dogs. They taste fine, though. Birds depend. She'll still eat them, though. Flowers annoy her. Unless God gives them to her. Also, they taste kinda bland. Boring stories are annoying. Discs and cartridges leave a strange aftertaste. Paper is fine, though. Overly-specific color names are annoying. She ate two concepts of colors. Nobody remembers them, though. Bright lights bother her. Kinda tasteless, though.
Personality: Let it be known far and wide that Devil is not the ideal role model for anyone aspiring to be a respectable member of society. At least, not on the surface. At face value, Devil, essentially, embodies pretty much every major “sin” documented. She's greedy, gluttonous, lazy as hell, openly vocal about the things she wants, lewd, proud, and a number of other things. By all means, she's the worst role model. For anybody not aspiring to be just a little bit demonic, anyway. Whether some see her and decide to avoid being like her or to embrace her traits, she considers herself a guidepost of sorts, when displaying all the faults one could possibly have. Of course, some of these things aren't necessarily faults, in moderation. That's why she's not at all concerned with people copying these “bad traits”. She feels that one should embrace their shortcomings. And if they want to forsake them? Then that resolution to abandon those desires and urges will make them stronger. Either way, she sees it as a plus.
Of course, she's not quite such a bad person, if one is aware of her real personality, or the mentality working behind the scene. Physically, she might seem lazy, even useless. However, on the physical level of things, the world is, for the most part, “perfect”. It doesn't really require her to raise a finger. So, therefore, what is she, and God really, there for? Simple. The mind. Just as God is an existence above angels, so is Devil above demons. So, while she's off gallivanting, begging for food, or seemingly sleeping wherever, is she really just laying there? Nope. She's thinking on a level beyond her children, considering how to best steer the world, as well as how to protect it from others. It's something that doesn't require her to move to do. And, frankly, it's better that way, she thinks. Their world's peace might be perfect, but the children don't need to know just how much it takes to hold it together- from the inside and out.
Given that the world is the way it is, though, she's very easy-going. Very seldom will you see her in a rush to do something when she's not goofing off or up to some sort of mischief. There's not much that requires her to rush, after all, so the times that she's wound up and moving? Typically gonna go screw with the god. Or play. Or get sweets. Despite being as “lazy” as she is, she's more than willing to dump hours of careful effort into some intricate plans for the sake of innocent mischief. Nothing terrible, mind you. And most of it is directed at her colleague-in-leadership. She's ninety-nine percent certain that he enjoys it, anyway. Or that's what she tells herself. Not that she really needs excuses.
Contrary to her devilish nature, mischievous antics, and seemingly horrible character, though, Devil is actually one huge, warm ball of love. Before the war's conclusion, her name wasn't preceded by “Mother” simply out of formality. There was always a definite connection between herself and her followers. And, in this era of peace? While the connection isn't as direct or obvious- really, the less people need to see her, the better, she believes- she loves all of those little shits as much as she possibly could. Second only to herself, she'd verbally claim. Even pure-blood angels are within the net of affection she has. And, you know. That one asshole.
Whether she's playing the role of the anti-role model, a cheerful and adorable little girl, a mischievous little devil, or an honest-to-devil maternal figure, it doesn't really matter. Devil can manage to be whatever she needs to be for the sake of her little flock. And for those that want to disrupt the little utopia they constructed and enjoy on the day-to-day? Well. There's a reason “Merderecia” sounds like “Murder” in the opening. Tee-hee.
Call her a pessimist, if you'd like- or a realist, if that's your flavor of perspective- but Devil doubts the safety of their utopia. Of course, she doesn't fear anything rising up from within. There's nothing but love and discipline in their little world, when things boil down to their basics. She has no doubt her kids- and that one asshole's- can get along just fine for eternity, if they had the time to. Rather, Devil's got her eyes- some of the spares ones not in her tiny little kid-like skull- watching the verge between their world and others. She has faith in her kids, in her colleague, and their world as a whole. What she lacks faith, or- really, if you want to be honest- the ability to place faith, in are the worlds outside of their own, as well as their denizens. Some people can't just leave things alone. Just look at herself with the god- she screws with him on the day-to-day for the sake of basic entertainment and other things. Now, if she's entirely fueled by good intentions with him, what would someone fueled by negativity try to do? That's the nagging concern she's got.
Of course, even if worse should come to worst, and observation and mitigation should prove fruitless? Well, a great sin might be “Pride”, but she's pretty damn sure she can handle anything else on her spectrum of light and dark. And, as for her partner, Lord Neversmile himself? Well, she's sure he can handle anything on his end. Of course, that's, though prideful, still being modest. She's entirely sure she could raze any opposition on her own, if the need came about. Naturally, she has that same faith in her partner. Of course, that's only a worst-case. Just call it self-assurance, alleviating any sense of pessimism.
Gotta keep smiling evermore, after all, right?
History: Once upon a time, in an era long-gone, peace was not a given. Devil went by a different name, and her followers had an entirely different disposition overall. The bond between her and her followers was strong. She led with a mixture of love and fear- her followers certainly loved her, but they also knew full-well her power and her capabilities. She was loved by her children, yet also feared as “Eversmile”, the one that would always smile, no matter how much sorrow or fury pulsated through her body. That was an era, though, where she saw many of her children end up dead. Indeed, by the end of it, only four of her children remained.
The only thing she could have ever missed from that time was the closer connection she had with all of her children.
Following the conclusion of the war, peace found a way, and the reconstruction began. Devil was fully capable of destruction, obviously, but creation was only the other side of the coin. After the world was remade, the “next race” of demons needed to be created. Given that they had sworn to make only those that were inherently non-combatants, Devil's children ended up being the rough equivalent of the standard citizens during the war. They were strong, certainly. They had their own powers, of course. But, while they had the potential to become warriors, if they truly desired it, they were not built for warfare. So began the “First Generation” of demons, following the war.
Still having other things to do, Devil assigned her four remaining Devas to act as administrators over the demons, ensuring that they meshed with the angels and got through the process of establishing a civilization. During this time, Devil implemented a number of surveillance tools around the world, and even just outside of it. These tools varied from what could be considered decorations to actual things that most people would leave alone- like light poles. Some were obvious, some not so much. Of course, stationary tools only had so much use. She also utilized a good number of familiars to keep their eyes and ears on anything of note in their world. In order to ensure that peace existed, the world needed to be protected from the inside and out- the children needed guidance, and the world itself needed protection from anything outside.
Once the waves of creation and establishment generally tapered out, and the boat, so to speak, was left to smooth sailing, Devil allowed most things to run on their own. Her subordinates, the Devas, remained on top of things as administrators, so long as their presence was needed. For the most part, they were just taking up an office, though. They were mostly as free as she was, physically. Outside of the occasional hiccup, Devil could focus entirely on the mentality of development and mingling with her children.
Of course, not many, if any, could tell that she was always in thought about the future. Her reputation as a mischievous, childish trickster, who loved bothering her partner, probably began not long after. Not that it mattered to her, though. After all, who was more scary? A leader you never heard anything about, or a light-hearted trickster that just so happened to be a leader? Life was beautiful, and Devil made sure that the lives of her kids, and that one asshole's, went by without any major issues.
